Background: Central venous access plays an important role in the management of many patients. Traditionally these lines have been inserted by clinicians without the use of imaging, although recently the value of ultrasound (US) in line placement has been widely accepted, the use of fluoroscopy in line insertion has been less well published. Complications of line placement usually require minimal treatment.Case Report: We present a case report of a 71 years old lady who had a fatal complication of central venous catheter insertion. Conclusions: This complication could be avoided by the use of combined ultrasound and fluoroscopy imaging guidance.
