Abstract
Background: Pineal inflammatory tumors are extremely rare in humans. To date, no reports of pineal inflammatory tumors in children have been found in the literature. The symptoms of pineal tumors are similar irrespective of their histological structure. They include the manifestations of acute hydrocephalus, cerebellar sydrome and Perinaud’s symptom.Case Report: We have presented the case of a pineal tumor with typical histology in a 9-year-old boy. The tumor was not radically resected. The histopathology showed chronic nonspecific pinealitis. During the follow-up, spontaneous remission was observed. The etiology of the tumor was not established. Conclusions: Despite the extremely rare incidence of inflammatory pineal tumors, they should be considered as potential pathology of this region. Spontaneous remission of inflammatory pineal tumors is possible.
