Abstract

Background: Wandering spleen is a rare disease that may be difficult to diagnose due to non-specificity of complementary tests. Nonetheless, image complementary examinations could suggest the sickness. Surgical examination usually gives the diagnosis and it can be carried out means laparotomy or laparoscopy. Described surgical procedures in both cases have been splenopexy and splenectomy.
Case report: We report on a case of a 28 year-old woman who complained of abdominal pain and fever.
Clinical examination revealed a mass in the lower abdomen. Blood tests and image examinations suggested the diagnostic, in fact: torsion of a wandering spleen. Surgical treatment was carried out and diagnostic was confirmed. Splenectomy was performed.
Conclusions: Splenectomy was the best option in this case. We discuss on all diagnosing and treatment current possibilities.

Keywords: ectopic spleen, wandering spleen, acute abdomen, wandering spleen torsion
