Background: Large hemangiomas of the liver can causes acquired hypothyroidism, due to increased type 3
deiodinase activity, which catalyzes conversion of T4 to rT3 and T3 to T2.
Case Report: A case of acquired hypothyroidism with multiple hepatic hemangiomas is reported here.
Conclusions: Monthly thyroid function testing in infants with large hepatic hemangiomas through the first year of life is recommended.
