Prolonged alcohol abuse is a recognized etiological factor in the development of acute pancreatitis, although the pathogenic mechanisms involved in such processes are still anknown. Hyperlipemia is a frequent state in acute pancreatitis. Relation of acute pancreatitis, hypertriglicerydemia and alcohol consumption were discussed. According to some autors alcohol increases triglicerydes level in blood serum due to increased synthesis in liver and delays lipoprothein lipase activity. Metabolic pathways of alcohol were presented as well as direct and undirect effect on pancreas.
