Abstract: Background: Cryptogenic organizing pneumonia associated with bleb formation and pneumothorax is rare and can present some interesting diagnostic and treatment modalities.
Case Report: A 35-year-old female presented initially with influenza infection and later deteriorated. She required oxygen and had an open lung biopsy which revealed the cryptogenic organizing pneumonia with bleb formation. She subsequently developed pneumothoraces. The patient improved with steroid therapy.
Conclusions: Pneumothorax formation in the setting of cryptogenic organizing pneumonia has been proposed as a poor prognostic sign. This is not always the case and may be dependent on the patient’s overall pre-illness condition.
