Figure 2. Clinical course of disease in our patient. Shewanella species was detected in both pleural effusion and blood cultures on the day of admission. We inserted a chest tube, and initiated piperacillin/tazobactam and vancomycin empirically and switched to ceftriaxone. As a result, the effusion was successfully treated. However, on hospitalization day 53, the patient died of aspiration pneumonia.
