Abstract
Last years technical progress brought modern and effective forms of insulin analogues and methods of delivering insulin for diabetics. Today’s offer of different insulin analogues and devices used for delivering insulin in daily practice, especially insulin pumps is presented in this paper. Their advantages and problems and risks with continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion using insulin pumps are discussed. New possibilities of monitoring glycaemia are described. Raising the quality of life of patients with diabetes and achieving the best possible metabolic control are still most powerful when seeking for new, different solutions of individualized insulin therapy.
Keywords: Insulin pumps, intensified insulin therapy, continuous glycemia monitoring, continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion, insulin analogues
