Graves’ ophthalmopathy resistant to treatment – case report

Abstract
Background: Thyroid - associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) is an autoimmune disorder that is closely associated with Graves’ disease.Case Report: We report a case of a 37-year old woman with Graves’ ophthalmopathy resistant to treatment. We present the risk factors, the clinical history and the methods of treatment. The aim of the article is to reveal therapeutic problems, to present new methods of treatment of thyroid -associated ophthalmopathy, and to report some researches related to the pathogenetic mechanism of TAO, basing on current data from literature.Conclusions: The effective management of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy is a great challenge for scientistsand practitioners.
