Background: We report the problems of diagnosis of amelanotic malignant melanoma in alveolar ridge in 22-years-old woman.Case Report: Within the period of 8 months, four different diagnoses has been made. These included, amelanocytic malignant melanoma (AMM), embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, synovial sarcoma and inflammatory infiltration. The patient was consulted in four various pathology centers in Warsaw (Poland), Great Britain and Germany as well as in the Wroclaw Medical University. Based on the course of unsuccessful treatment and progress of disease, together with histopathological findings and review of literature we confirmed the diagnosis of amelanotic malignant melanoma.Conclusions: With this paper we would like to emphasize that AMM is extremely rare case of malignant tumor in oral cavity in young persons and should always be taken into account when suspicious, treatment-resistant masses are being found in oral cavity, like e.g. in alveolar ridge.
