Abstract
Background: Sporotrichosis is a subcutaneous or systemic fungal infection caused by the dimorphic fungus Sporothrix schenckii. Infection occurs in both temperate and tropical countries . We present a case of sporotrichosis which is a rare disorder in Turkey.Case Report: We report a case of Sporotrichosis, which is a rare disorder in Turkey. A 20-year old woman, working as a farmer, presented a six month history of a lesion on her right hand and arm. Although the fungal culture was negative for sporothrix schenckii, by clinical and histopathological findings the patient diagnosed as sporotrichosis and treated succesfully with short-termitraconazole and oral potassium iodide. Conclusions: Since sporotrichosis is an occupational disease, farmers should be informed about the transmission ways of the disease. Delayed treatment of such infections may require surgical excision and systemic antifungal therapy. Early diagnose and treatment is aimed at decreasing morbidity, improving quality of life.
