Role of nitric oxide (NO) in hormone secretion – part II

Abstract
Nitric oxide is produced by a number of different cell types and plays an important regulatory function in several biological processes. NOS - nitric oxide synthase activity has been detected in various structures connected with the endocrine system. On the basis of experimental and clinical studies, it has been suggested that there is a possible role for NO in endocrine secretion. This paper reviews the literature studies concerning the significance of NO in hormone secretion. These data make some contribution to understanding of the mechanisms controlling physiological endocrine functions and some clinical disorders.
