Summary
Background: Infections of a dental origin may rarely manifest as orbital cellulitis. There is a strong association between orbital cellulitis and odontogenic sinusitis. Its presence affects treatment and is necessary to be excluded in all affected patients.
Case Report: We present a case of a young man who suffered from unilateral maxillary sinusitis and severe orbital cellulitis that followed teeth extraction. Patient revealed serious complications and was treated with surgery and coadjuvant, empirically chosen antibiotic therapy with a good response.
Conclusions: We would like to highlight the importance of fast and proper diagnosis and treatment in case of
suspected odontogenic orbital purulent inflammation. Symptoms, the possible pathway for the spread of this type of infection, predisposing factors and possible complications and the value of radiographic examination are reviewed.
