Abstract

Background: A case report of nasal septum Schwannoma is presented. Schwannomas are benign nerve sheath tumours that may be observed on any part of the body. Although nearly half of all these tumours are located in the head and neck region, nasal and paranasal sinus presentation is very rare.
Case Report: The patient was a 75-year-old female referred from the regional ENT clinic to our tertiary centre after primary resection of the polypoid lesion from the nasopharynx. Histopathological findings
of the tumour indicated Schwannoma. Postoperative computed tomography (CT) showed a soft tissue density mass in the posterior part of the septum and the sphenoid inferior wall in the left nasal cavity that could represent the remnant of the primary tumour. The residual tumour was totally removed endoscopically with healthy tissue margins. Pathological examination confirmed previous diagnosis. The postoperative course was uneventful, and no recurrence during a 18-month follow-up has been observed.
Conclusions: Isolated lesions of the nasal cavity, including very rare tumours like presented here, can be safely approached and removed endoscopicaly.
