Hypothalamic sarcoidosis causing secondary amenorrhea
Mamdoh A. EskandarCase Rep Clin Pract Rev 2006; 7:72-74 :: ID: 449530
Abstract
Background: Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease of unknown etiology. Sarcoisosis affects men and women of all races and ages.
Case Report: 28 years old female with hypogonadotropic amenorrhea and sarcoidiosis presented to our clinic. Concentrations of luteinizing and growth hormone did not increase after the administration of gonadotrpin releasing hormone and insulin-induced hypoglycemia. The absence of response possibly was the consequence of the patient’s estrogen deficiency.
Conclusions: The cause of amenorrhea was due to hypothalamic involvement by sarcoidosis which is suggested by the low FSH and LH concentrations and the high prolactin concentration.
