Background: The aim of this study was a presentation a case of a giant tumour (serous cystadenodofibroma) of the abdominal cavity in a patient with a history of hysterectomy and left adnexectomy.
Case report: There was described a women, age 50 years, nullipara, LMP at the age of 28, which was referred to the Gynaecology Department, Medical University of Warsaw due to a giant tumour in the abdominal cavity, probably arising from the ovary. The patient was referred for surgery. At laparotomy a tumour of the right ovary was found. It was the size of a full-term twin pregnancy. Approximately 300 ml of serosanguineous fluid were found in the abdominal cavity. Upon incision of the tumour capsule, approximately 27 litres of serosanguineous fluid were evacuated from the two cavities of the cyst. The second cavity contained an irregular solid mass measuring ca. 10 cm x 15 cm. The tumor was excised after loosening it from its adhesions. Pathological
examination demonstrated a giant serous cystadenofibroma of the right ovary ( cystadenofibroma permagna serosum ovarii dextri).
Conclusions: This giant ovarian tumour in a 50-year-old woman is an example of an advanced process of
hyperplasia, in this case benign, for which the patient failed to seek medical advice despite an easy access to specialist medical care.
