Abstract
Background: Rheumatic complaints may accompany almost any type of viral illness, and the arthritic
presentation may be confused with other inflammatory arthritis types. Rubella is an uncommon cause of acute polyarthritis which also occurs even before typical skin rash and needs different treatment approach.
Case Report: We report a 20-year-old woman who developed an acute polyarthritis preceding rubella skin rash and a detailed differential diagnosis of early arthritis is discussed.
Conclusions: The clinical picture markedly improved with systemic corticosteroid therapy. Physicians should consider Rubella in cases presenting with polyarthritis and skin rash.
Keywords: polyarthritis, Rubella, viral arthritis
