Background: Damage of intra- or extracranial vessels may occur as a result of road accidents. Posttraumatic thrombosis and artery occlusion may be found even after a minor head injury. The symptoms usually occur within
24 to 48 hours after trauma but they may develop slowly during a few days.
Case report: Although the patient described in the paper took part in a car accident, he did not suffer from any contact injuries. Bulbar syndrome caused by intravascular clot of the basilar artery appeared 14 days after the
accident.
Conclusion: The recognition of etiology and location of cerebral artery occlusion is primarily connected with angiography currently performed by non–invasive methods of magnetic resonance or computer tomography.
The brain–stem stroke after trauma is an indicator for performing Angio-CT or Angio–MRI Patients resistant to pharmacological treatment or those who have contraindications to drugs administration are qualified for angioplasty
procedure.
