Abstract
The study presents the current views concerning the role of stereotaxic biopsy in diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors including surgical techniques, indications, complications, sensitivity, and specificity this method. The papers from the most important clinical centers are reviewed leading to a conclusion that stereotaxic biopsy is an efficient and safe method allowing to establish the diagnosis and to select the appropriate therapy.
The presented paper was inspired by getting acquainted by the author during her research scholarship with the experience of the Clinic of Stereotaxic Neurosurgery in Freiburg. The Clinic, headed by Prof. Ch. Ostertag, is
one of the leading centers in the world in the application of stereotaxic methods in neurosurgery
