Abstract
High mortality rate among patients with septic complications of multiorgan injury (MOI) enforces the efforts to explain the etiology and to find a way of improving current status. Recent studies proved that in 30 percent of patients who died after injury, no infection focus leading to sepsis was determined. It is currently assumed, that injury triggers generalized unspecific immune response of the organism. Problems in the differentiation between sepsis and septic shock, especially in determining the moment of transition of one infection form into another have encouraged the introduction of the term 'septic syndrome', which stands for generalized disorders existing in both septic complications. Septic syndrome is described as a manifestation of systemic response of the organism against infectious factors, accompanied by certain clinical symptoms, from the moment of bacterial invasion until the multiorgan dysfunctions syndrome starts.he paper focuses on definition of basic complications of septic syndrome as well as displaying state-of-the-art methods of their treatment.
