Abstract

Background: Castleman’s disease, defined as angiofollicular lymphoid hyperplasia, is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder. The tumour is often diagnosed after onset of non-specific thoracic symptoms but can be generally detected in asymptomatic patients. Surgical excision is curative and necessary for diagnosis.
Case Report: We reported a case 40-year-old that she was admitted to our hospital because of an abnormal mass in chest X-ray. Her physical examination and symptoms were unremarkable except for weakness. This mass in the patient was confirmed by using computed tomography and
magnetic resonance imaging. And then, we performed median sternotomy in the patient. There was a mass with diameter 90x80 mm in antero-superior mediastinum, and it was excised. Hyaline-vascular type of Castleman’s disease was diagnosed histopathologically.
Conclusions: Especially, in asymptomatic patients or in patients with indistinct symptoms having mass in mediastinum or hilum, and/or with a mass view in chest X-ray, the Castleman’s disease should be considered.

Keywords: Castleman’s disease, mediastinel mass
