Abstract
Background: Despite the advert of antibiotics, tuberculosis (TB) is still present nowadays, especially in developing countries. It seems that it has started to resurge worldwide in the last 15 years, due to HIV and resistance to first line antibiotics.
Case Report: We present the rare case of an 18 year-old man who presented in our hospital’s A&E with generalized abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Abdominal computed tomography scan suggested an inflammatory reaction inside the peritoneal cavity. Under the diagnosis of peritonitis the patient was taken to theatres, where biopsies were taken and the diagnosis of abdominal tuberculosis was established.
Conclusions: The increased number of immigrants should make us more aware and therefore, always raise the suspicion of TB in order to avoid unnecessary surgery.
