Abstract
Background: Infective endocarditis is a rare but life-threatening complication of pregnancy. The fi rst choice of treatment of patients with infective endocarditis should be medical in pregnant woman; however, in cases that are not responsive to medical treatment, corrective cardiac operations are inevitable.
Case Report: This report presents a successfully managed unusual case of cardiopulmonary bypass in a pregnant woman complicated by the infective endocarditis.
Conclusions: Early diagnosis, immediate intervention and the continuous fetal cardiotocography help to reduce fetal complications during the cardiopulmonary bypass. In the pregnant women with infective endocarditis underwent cardiopulmonary bypass, it should be kept in mind to avoid agents which induces uterine contractions as inotropics, to supply adequate uterine blood fl ow by high flow-high pressure perfusion, and appropriate monitorization of the mother and the fetus. In the management of these very high powered risk cases, a successful outcome can be achieved with a multidisciplinary approach.
