Rapid progression of Wegener’s Granulomatosis to therapy related Myelodysplastic Syndrome and Acute Myelomonocytic Leukemia: case report

Abstract
Background: Treatment of Wegener’s Granulomatosis (WG) with Cyclophosphamide still remains a problem for developing secondary malignancies.
Case Report: A 64 year old patient diagnosed with WG in May 2004, developed RAEB I MDS and Acute Myelomonocytic Leukemia after treatment with relatively low dose of Cyclophosphamide 26 months after diagnosis of rheumatic disease.
Conclusions: We suggest close hematological monitoring of WG patients treated with alkylating agents for early diagnosis of secondary, therapy related, disorders.
