Background: At present, Ravitch procedure modified by various techniques is used commonly in the surgical repair of pectus excavatum.
Case Report: A typical Ravitch procedure was performed on a 21 year-old-male patient with the diagnosis of pectus excavatum. However, in this case, the posterior sternal support was obtained by suturing lower 1/3 parts of the pectoralis major muscles in both sides reciprocally behind the sternum. In postoperative period, the normal appearance of the chest wall was obtained. No recurrence was observed clinically and radiologically during 1 year of follow-up period.
Conclusions: In Ravitch procedure, using regional autolog muscles to support the sternum may be an alternative modification technique.
