Abstract
Background: Female genital cutting (FGC) or mutilation (FGM) is the collective name given to traditional practices that involve partial or total cutting away of the female external genitalia, whether for cultural or other non-therapeutic reasons. There is no definitive evidence documenting when or why this ritual began.
Case Report: The author reports a young adult girl complaining of a painless swelling just above the vaginal introitus after being circumcised. The girl’s family history showed two sisters, 22 and 23 years old, with the same complaint treated by the author 12 months before by simple excision of the swellings.
Female genital mutilation is not recommended by any religious or medical opinion and is a violation of human rights against helpless individuals. The potential physical complications resulting from the procedure are numerous, one of the most important being epidermal inclusion cysts within the cicatrix.
Conclusions: To the author’s best knowledge, post-circumcision dermoid inclusion cysts in three sisters of one family have not been previously reported.
Keywords: Circumcision, inclusion dermoid
