Abstract
Background: False aneurysm is a rare but possible complication of hemorrhage from an intracranial angioma. It is usually caused by trauma, surgical intervention, or the rupture of a true cerebral aneurysm.
Case Report: Two cases of cerebral false aneurysm within ruptured arteriovenous malformation are presented. In both cases the false aneurysms were diagnosed by cerebral arteriography. Head CT as well as CT angiography were inconclusive. Successful treatment using endovascular embolization techniques
was performed. In one of the cases, tissue adhesive and embolization coils were used simultaneously.
Conclusions: Cerebral arteriography should be the method of choice for a definitive diagnosis of false aneurysms. Endovascular therapy is a safe and effective approach in the management of false aneurysms.
