Abstract
Background: An unusual case of late-onset intraocular lens (IOL) opacification in a myopic patient.
Case Report: A 78-year-old myopic female underwent phacoemulsification and implantation of a single-piece hydrophilic lens (Morcher GmbH type with power of +7.oo diopter) about 8 years ago in her both eyes. The best-corrected visual acuity after surgery was 20/40 in both eyes. Having been developed the condition 2 months ago, and due to a milky, white opalescence of the IOL, the patient had a significant decrease in the visual acuity of her right eye, up to perception of hand motion. The intraocular lens was removed and replaced with another implant.
Conclusions: This case represents a rare sequela of intraocular lens implantation that requires removal and replacement.
