Abstract
Background: Hypospadias is a common congenital anomaly. Its surgical treatment demands high surgical skills. Urethral stricture is one of the complex complications of its surgical treatment. We report a case of severe stricture at the proximal urethra in a child who underwent Duckett procedure.
Case Report: A 3-year-old boy presented to our ward with cute urinary retention. He had undergone Duckett repair of penoscrotal hypospadias 6 months before admission. After removal of the urethral catheter, he never experienced normal voiding, and went on to develop urinary retention. Due to severe proximal anterior urethral stricture, shown in the retrograde urethrography, proximal penile end-to-end urethroplasty was performed successfully.
Conclusions: There are multiple options for treatment of urethral strictures after hypospadias surgery (e.g. buccal mucosal graft or using flaps), but end-to-end urethroplasty is simpler in comparison to other techniques.
